Der Blues revolutionierte die Musik, und seine Strahlkraft ist noch immer ungebrochen. Doch ausgerechnet im Ursprungsland USA herrscht in der aktuellen Blues-Szene grosse wirtschaftliche und soziale Not, welche durch die Covid19-Pandemie zusätzlich verstärkt wurde. Stellvertretend für alle weltweiten Musiker*innen, die dem Geburtsort des Blues dankbar sind, diese Nöte sehen und sich solidarisch fühlen, veröffentlichen vier renommierte Vertreter*innen der Schweizer Blues-Szene nun den Song «Hard Times Need Hope» – und lancieren damit eine Spendenaktion für den HART Fonds der Blues Foundation. «Weil unsere harten Zeiten in der Schweiz nicht annähernd so hart sind wie die unserer Kolleg*innen in den USA», meint Lilly Martin.
Die in der Schweiz lebende und für den diesjährigen Swiss Blues Award nominierte New Yorker Sängerin Lilly Martin schrieb mit Pianist und Produzent Michael Dolmetsch zusammen eine vom Blues durchtränkte Soul-Ballade als Botschaft der Hoffnung für Menschen, die in eine existentielle Krise geraten sind. Zusammen mit Mikey Wunderbar (ein junger, aufstrebender Blues-, Indie- und Soul-Künstler) und Richard Koechli (mehrfach preisgekrönter Bluesmusiker und Musikbuchautor) entstand während der Covid19-Krise eine Studioaufnahme auf Distanz. Martins und Wunderbars herausragende Stimmen verschmelzen zum traumhaften Duett, Koechli beseelt das Stück zusätzlich mit seiner messerscharfen Bluesgitarre, Dolmetsch verleiht der Produktion den berühmten Memphis-Sound, und der aktuelle Video-Clip gibt hautnahen Einblick in die spontane Lockdown-Session.
Sämtliche Verkaufserlöse dieses Songs gehen bis Ende 2020 vollumfänglich an den HART-Fonds. Mit dem Erlös werden US-Blueskünstler*innen in Not direkt unterstützt (medizinische Versorgung, Grundbedürfnisse, Bestattungskosten usw.). The blues revolutionized music; its radiant power is still unbroken. But in the country of origin, the USA, of all places, there is great economic and social hardship in the current blues scene, which is further aggravated by the Covid19 pandemic. On behalf of all musicians worldwide who are grateful to the birthplace of the blues, who see these hardships and feel solidarity, four renowned representatives of the Swiss blues scene are now releasing the song «Hard Times Need Hope» - and thus launching a fundraising campaign for the Blues Foundation's HART Fund. «Because our hard times in Switzerland are not nearly as hard as those of our fellow musicians in the USA», says Lilly Martin.
The New York singer Lilly Martin, who lives in Switzerland and was nominated for this year's Swiss Blues Award, wrote a blues saturated soul ballad together with pianist and producer Michael Dolmetsch. It carries a message of hope for all people who have fallen on to hard times. Together with Mikey Wunderbar (a young, up-and-coming blues, indie and soul artist) and Richard Koechli (a multiple award-winning blues musician and music author), a remote studio recording was made during the Covid19 crisis. Martin's and Wunderbar's outstanding voices merge into a stirring duet, Koechli additionally inspires the piece with his razor-sharp blues guitar, Dolmetsch gives the production a touch of the famous Memphis sound. The correlating video clip gives a close insight into the spontaneous lockdown session.
All proceeds from the sale of this song will go to the HART Fund in 2020. The proceeds will directly support USA blues artists* in need (medical care, basic needs, funeral costs, etc.). Lilly Martin: «We are all committed and indebted to this great American art form. Without the blues I wouldn't be who I am, nor would I be able to survive as a musician. Yes, we too have suffered because of the Covid19 virus and the cancelled concerts, but we are aware that our 'hard times' are not nearly as hard as those of our fellow musicians in the USA»
Mikey Wunderbar: «The song and the message touched me from the beginning. For many musicians the crisis is not over; some of them cannot perform for a longer period of time and do not receive social help. To be able to use my voice, which was decisively shaped by the blues, for the benefit of American artists makes me happy.»
Richard Koechli: «The blues have set me free. On my voyage of discovery to the roots of the African-American musical soul I became grateful, but also sad and angry - because of all these historical and current injustices. Now, I feel thankful to be able to give something small back to the source of that wonderful culture with this song.»

Le blues a révolutionné la musique, et son rayonnement est toujours intact. Mais dans le pays d'origine, les États-Unis, il y a de grandes difficultés économiques et sociales dans la scène actuelle du blues, qui a été encore aggravée par la pandémie de Covid19. Au nom de tous les musiciens du monde entier qui sont reconnaissants au berceau du blues, qui voient ces difficultés et ressentent un sentiment de solidarité, quatre représentants renommés de la scène blues suisse sortent actuellement la chanson "Hard Times Need Hope" - et lancent une campagne de collecte de fonds pour le Fonds HART de la Fondation Blues. "Parce que nos temps difficiles en Suisse ne sont pas aussi durs que ceux de nos collègues aux États-Unis", déclare Lilly Martin.
La chanteuse new-yorkaise Lilly Martin, qui vit en Suisse et a été nominée pour le Swiss Blues Award de cette année, a écrit une ballade soul saturée de blues avec le pianiste et producteur Michael Dolmetsch, comme message d'espoir pour les personnes qui sont tombées dans une crise existentielle. Avec Mikey Wunderbar (un jeune artiste de blues, d'indie et de soul en pleine ascension) et Richard Koechli (un musicien de blues et auteur de musique plusieurs fois primé), un enregistrement en studio a été réalisé à distance pendant la crise de Covid19. Les voix exceptionnelles de Martin et de Wunderbar se fondent en un duo onirique, Koechli inspire en outre le morceau avec sa guitare blues aiguisée comme un rasoir, Dolmetsch donne à la production le fameux son de Memphis, et le clip vidéo actuel donne un aperçu très proche de la séance de lockdown spontanée.
Tous les bénéfices de la vente de cette chanson seront intégralement versés au fonds HART d'ici la fin de l'année 2020. Les recettes seront utilisées pour soutenir directement les artistes de blues* dans le besoin aux États-Unis (soins médicaux, besoins de base, frais d'obsèques, etc.). Lilly Martin: "Nous nous sentons tous engagés dans cette grande forme d'art américaine. Sans le blues, je ne serais pas ce que je suis et je ne pourrais pas survivre en tant que musicienne. Oui, nous avons nous aussi souffert du virus Covid19 et des concerts annulés, mais nous sommes conscients que nos temps sont loin d'être aussi durs que ceux de nos collègues aux États-Unis".
Mikey Wunderbar: "La chanson et le message m'ont touché dès le début. Pour de nombreux musiciens*, la crise n'est pas terminée ; certains ne peuvent pas se produire pendant longtemps et ne reçoivent pas d'aide sociale. Pouvoir utiliser ma voix, qui a été marquée par le blues, pour les artistes américains me rend heureux.
Richard Koechli: "Le blues m'a rendu libre. Lors de mon voyage de découverte des racines de l'âme musicale afro-américaine, je suis devenu reconnaissant, mais aussi triste et en colère - à cause de toutes ces injustices historiques et actuelles. Maintenant, pouvoir avec cette chanson rendre quelque chose à la source de cette merveilleuse culture, c'est un grand plaisir pour moi."
Michael Dolmetsch: "Les musiciens américains sont particulièrement touchés.
